Twenty years after the launch of Irida Classical, its conceiver and founder, composer Alkis Papadopoulos, offers us his long- awaited first personal album, titled Six Film Scenes.
The album features works solo piano performed by Maria Moschidou and revolves around the composer’s love of cinema: the first six pieces are musical renditions of his memories from the viewing of six films that made a profound impression on him, intellectually as well as aesthetically.
From Mon Oncle directed by Jacques Tati to 2046 directed by Wong Kar-wai and from Hiroshima Mon Amour directed by Alain Resnais to The Travelling Players directed by Theodoros Angelopoulos, Alkis Papadopoulos recreates his cinematic experiences through a stylistacally diverse palette, with minimalism as his touchstone. The album ends with Three Obsessions and a Lullaby, which are based on repetition and the repertoire of piano etudes.
